Julie Emmons

Julie Emmons, co-owner of Open Studio Yoga in Pueblo (http://openstudioyoga.com/Home.html), was drawn to yoga for its quality as a moving meditation. She has been practicing yoga since 1998 and began formal studies in 2000. Primarily trained in Ashtanga, Julie’s focus grew in 2005 when she began practicing at the The Samarya Center in Seattle, Washington, a non-profit center for Ashtanga yoga and Integrated Movement Therapy.

Julie is intrigued with the neurophysiology of the brain and how it can be used to expand people’s capacity to achieve and create. Julie and her loving husband Matt manage the studio and care for their two beautiful children, Henry and James along with several pets. In her spare time, Julie is a nature enthusiast and art lover.

Julie’s classes focus on the individual student and are taught in the style of vinyasa (linking breath with movement).   She draws from Ashtanga yoga, or “eight limbed,” yoga; Krishnamacharya’s belief that “if you can breath you can practice yoga”; and foundational movement principles, which focus on the breath, spine, feet, and core. She believes that everyone can do yoga and encourages beginners as well as experienced practitioners to attend her classes.
